Having DSL or Cable does NOT prevent faxing, as long as your 56k modem and standard telephone line are still connected. Most people have this, even if they also have DSL or Cable.

DSL and Cable are for Internet access. Faxing does not go through the internet. It dials the telephone number of the receiving fax machine and creates a direct fax-to-fax connection. This requires a regular telephone connection.
